Primary Mental Health Program

Residential psychiatric care that stabilizes symptoms through integrated medication management and evidence-based therapy, a bridge between crisis care and confident, independent community living.

Overview

A bridge between crisis care and community living.

Primary mental health residential treatment is a structured, 24-hour level of care that stabilizes psychiatric symptoms through integrated medication management and evidence-based therapy, while preparing you for a successful step-down to outpatient care and independent living.

This is not crisis resolution. The focus is sustained stability: the right medication at the right dose, practiced coping skills, and a plan for what comes next. Clinically, it sits between acute hospital care and outpatient programs like PHP or IOP.

Our philosophy is recovery-oriented and person-first, grounded in hope, empowerment, and your strengths. We serve the individual, never the diagnosis.

How Treatment Works

One team, one plan of care.

Care is delivered around the clock by a multidisciplinary team that collaborates on a single individualized plan for every person we serve.

Psychiatrist

Diagnostic oversight and medication management, guiding the clinical direction of your plan of care from admission through discharge.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Day-to-day medication management and medical monitoring, adjusting treatment as your symptoms respond.

Clinicians & Therapists

Individual, group, and family therapy grounded in CBT and DBT, the evidence-based backbone of the program.

On-Site Licensed Nurses

Nurses conduct patient assessments and provide nursing interventions to address identified needs, administer medications, and provide educational groups.

Behavioral Health Technicians

Milieu support, safety, and hands-on skills coaching throughout the day, the steady presence between sessions.

One Individualized Plan

A comprehensive evaluation of psychiatric, medical, behavioral, and psychosocial needs drives a single plan of care, updated as you progress.

A Day in the Program

Structure itself is therapeutic.

A predictable daily rhythm reduces anxiety and rebuilds functional routines. Days move through community and psychoeducation groups, activity therapy, life skills, and guided relaxation before rest.

  1. Morning Wake, medication pass, community group to set goals for the day, then health & wellness and psychoeducation.
  2. Midday Lunch followed by activity therapy, expressive, experiential work that builds coping skills.
  3. Afternoon Therapist-led process group, then life skills training for independent community living.
  4. Evening Dinner, journaling, daily inventory & reflection, evening medication pass, and guided relaxation before lights out.
Therapeutic Models

Evidence-based therapy, delivered in the right order.

Care moves progressively. Stabilize. Learn and practice with cues. Rehearse as those cues fade. If it holds in treatment, it can hold outside it. That work becomes understanding the illness, getting the most from treatment, preventing relapse, and building recovery into daily life. Bottom-up regulation is paired with top-down insight work, so therapy lands when you are ready for it.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Treatment is built on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the most extensively researched psychotherapy model.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT skills are woven throughout. Mindfulness comes first. You notice an urge before you can tolerate it, name an emotion before you can regulate it, and stay present in a hard conversation before interpersonal skills work.

Seeking Safety

Seeking Safety sits beside that work, helping safety take hold in thinking, coping, and relationships.

Who It’s For

Is residential mental health care right for you?

You’re stepping down after a psychiatric hospitalization or ER visit and still need stabilizing treatment.

You’re living with chronic mental health symptoms and have real potential for functional gains.

You’re at high risk of rapid decompensation and need a protective, higher level of care before crisis hits.

Outpatient therapy, IOP, or PHP hasn’t been enough to keep your symptoms stable.

Your medications need supervised adjustment to find the right fit and dose.

You want to break the cycle of repeat ER visits and hospitalizations.

Not sure if it’s the right fit? Call our admissions team, they’ll help you find the level of care that matches your needs.

Common Questions

Primary mental health treatment, answered.

How is this different from a psychiatric hospital?

A hospital resolves an acute crisis. Our residential program is the step after that: a calm, non-acute, 24-hour setting focused on sustained stability, finding the right medication, building coping skills, and planning your return to everyday life.

How long does the program last?

Length of stay is driven by your assessed clinical need and progress toward your goals, not a fixed calendar. Your treatment team reviews the plan with you continuously and prepares your step-down from day one.

Will my insurance cover residential mental health treatment?

Many plans cover it when it’s medically necessary. Call our admissions team and we will review your coverage with you confidentially before you commit to anything.

What happens with my current medications?

Bring them in their original packaging. Our psychiatrist and nurse practitioner review everything at admission, then manage and adjust your regimen with 24-hour nursing support, so changes happen safely and you understand each one.

What happens after I complete the program?

A safe step-down is one of the program’s core goals. We build your aftercare plan throughout your stay, transitioning to PHP, IOP, outpatient therapy, or independent living, with a personalized early-warning-sign and crisis response plan in hand.
